There is no station in Saint-Tropez and no airport nearby, so everyone arrives either by road or, in summer, by boat. A private Cannes to Saint-Tropez transfer costs a fixed €165 and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes door to door — the same price and the same time in the opposite direction.

Distance and Travel Time

The road distance from Cannes to Saint-Tropez is about 75 km. The usual route runs west on the A8 motorway to the Le Muy or Fréjus exit, then south on the D25 and D98A past Sainte-Maxime and Port Grimaud. Outside the season the drive is comfortably under 1 hour 20 minutes.

In July and August the picture changes. The whole peninsula is served by a handful of two-lane roads, and on Saturday afternoons the final 20 kilometres can take as long as the 55 before them. Leaving early in the morning or after 8 PM makes a real difference, and a local driver will know on the day whether to come in via Sainte-Maxime or over the hills through Gassin.

Cannes to Saint-Tropez: Prices 2026

All prices are fixed for the whole car, include tolls and fuel, and do not change with traffic or time of day. A sedan takes up to 4 passengers; a Mercedes V-Class minivan takes up to 7 and costs more — ask when booking.

Prices are the same in both directions. A late-night return from Saint-Tropez costs exactly the same as the morning run out — there is no night surcharge.

Getting from Cannes to Saint-Tropez: All Options Compared

Private transfer / car service — about 1h 15min

A booked car meets you at your hotel, villa or the Palais des Festivals and drives you to the exact address in Saint-Tropez, Pampelonne or Ramatuelle. The price is agreed before you set off and does not move if you sit in traffic at Port Grimaud. This is the only option that is genuinely door to door with luggage, and for two or more people it is usually cheaper than a taxi.

Taxi — €200–300, meter running

A taxi will take you, but this is a long intercity run and the meter decides the final figure. Expect €200–300, more if you leave on a Saturday in August, and note that few drivers in Cannes will quote a fixed rate in advance for it. Getting a taxi back from Saint-Tropez late at night is harder still — the rank empties out and waits get long.

Boat — about 1h 15min, summer only

A seasonal passenger boat crosses the bay between Cannes and Saint-Tropez in roughly 1 hour 15 minutes. It is the nicest way to arrive if the weather is good and you travel light: you step off in the old port with the citadel above you. The catch is that it runs only in season, a few sailings a day, is cancelled in a mistral, and leaves you at the quay rather than at your villa. Many guests take the boat one way and a car the other.

Train plus bus — 2 to 3 hours

There is no train to Saint-Tropez. You would take the TER from Cannes to Saint-Raphaël, about 25 minutes, then a bus around the gulf, which is slow in season and awkward with suitcases. It is the cheapest option and by far the longest.

Rental car — 1h 15min plus the parking problem

Driving yourself is fine until you arrive. Parking in Saint-Tropez in season is scarce and expensive, the old town is largely pedestrian, and the lanes around Pampelonne are narrow. If you only need the car to get there, a transfer removes the whole problem.

Taxi from Cannes to Saint-Tropez: What It Really Costs

This is the most common question we get on the route, so here is a straight answer. We are not a taxi company — we are a private hire service with fixed prices, which is a different licence in France. A taxi charges by the meter: on the Cannes–Saint-Tropez run that comes to roughly €200–300, and the number is only known when you arrive, because it depends on how long you spend queueing on the D98A.

A private transfer works the other way round. You get €165 agreed before departure, the same in both directions, tolls included, and traffic is our problem rather than yours. For the return leg the difference matters even more: a car booked for 11 PM outside your restaurant is waiting for you, while a taxi at the rank in August may not be.

Saint-Tropez to Cannes: The Return Leg

The return is the same 75 km and the same €165. It matters more than people expect, because Saint-Tropez empties late. Restaurants around the port and the clubs at Pampelonne run well past midnight, and that is exactly when local taxis are scarce. Booking the return when you book the outbound means a driver with your name on the phone, waiting where you agreed.

The same applies if you are heading on to the airport rather than back to Cannes: Saint-Tropez to Nice Airport is €165 and about 1 hour 30 minutes, and morning flights mean leaving before the roads fill up.

Travelling for Cannes Film Festival, Cannes Lions or Les Voiles

Three events fill this road every year. During the Film Festival in May and Cannes Lions in June, guests often stay on a yacht or in a villa near Saint-Tropez and commute to Cannes; in late September and early October Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez pulls the traffic the other way. In all three periods cars are booked out days in advance and the roads are at their slowest.

Beach Clubs, Villas and Days Out

Most trips to Saint-Tropez do not end at the hotel. Pampelonne beach is 15 to 20 minutes from the centre, and the clubs along it — along with the villages of Ramatuelle and Gassin up in the hills — are all covered at the same rate as the town. Many guests keep a driver on call for the day rather than move a car around a peninsula with nowhere to park it.

If you want to stop on the way, Port Grimaud, sometimes called the Venice of Provence, is directly on the route and worth twenty minutes. Tell the driver when you book and it costs nothing extra beyond the time.
