Cannes and Courchevel sit on opposite sides of the same country: palm trees to three valleys, about 290 kilometres and four hours of motorway then mountain road. There is no train to the resort and no scheduled airport on the doorstep, so the trip is always by road. A private Cannes to Courchevel transfer costs a fixed €375 and takes about four hours door to door — the same price and the same time coming back.

Distance and Travel Time

The usual route leaves Cannes on the A8 towards Aix, then north into the Alps towards Albertville and the N90 into the three valleys. In clear weather the drive is comfortably around four hours. On Saturday changeover days in December to April the last climb into Courchevel 1850 can add half an hour to an hour: the resort has one main access road and every chalet is turning over on the same afternoon.

Cannes to Courchevel: Prices 2026

All prices are fixed for the whole car, include tolls, fuel and snow chains, and do not change with Saturday traffic. A sedan takes up to 4 passengers; a V-Class takes up to 7 with ski racks — ask when booking.

The same rate applies to Courchevel 1850, 1650 (Moriond), 1550, Le Praz and La Tania. Give the chalet name when you book.

Getting from Cannes to Courchevel: The Options

Private transfer — about 4 hours, €375 fixed

A booked car collects you at the hotel, apartment or Palais des Festivals and drives you to the exact chalet. Ski bags go in the boot, snow chains go on before the last climb if the prefecture requires them, and the price does not move if you sit in Saturday traffic. This is the only option that is genuinely door to door with luggage.

Taxi — €500–700 on the meter

A taxi will take you, but this is a long intercity alpine run and the meter decides. Expect €500–700, more if you leave on a Saturday in February, and few Cannes drivers will quote a fixed rate in advance. Getting a taxi back from 1850 to Cannes on a Sunday evening is harder still.

Train plus bus — half a day

There is no station in Courchevel. You would take the train towards the Alps, change, then a bus or local taxi from Moûtiers up the valley. With ski bags and children that combination eats the day and still leaves a last-mile walk. It is cheaper. It is not how people actually arrive at 1850.

Rental car — four hours plus chains and parking

Driving yourself is fine until the last kilometres. Courchevel 1850 is steep, one-way, and in season parking at the chalet is not guaranteed. Chains or winter tyres are mandatory when the prefecture says so. If you only need the car to get there, a transfer removes the whole problem.

Taxi from Cannes to Courchevel: What It Really Costs

We are not a taxi company — we are a private hire service with fixed prices, a different licence in France. A taxi charges by the meter: on Cannes–Courchevel that comes to roughly €500–700, and the number is only known when you arrive because it depends on the queues into the three valleys.

A private transfer works the other way round. You get €375 agreed before departure, the same in both directions, tolls and chains included, and traffic is our problem rather than yours.

Courchevel 1850, 1650 and 1550

The price does not change between the villages. 1850 is the highest and the last kilometres are the steepest; 1650 (Moriond) and 1550 sit lower on the same road. Le Praz and La Tania are included at the same €375. Give the hotel or chalet name when you book so the driver does not unload at the first car park.

Ski Bags, Child Seats and Saturday Changeover

Ski bags and boots are included in the €375. Child seats are free if you ask when booking. Saturday is when the three valleys turn over: we leave Cannes with a margin rather than the map estimate, and we put chains on before the climb if the road is posted.

The Return: Courchevel to Cannes

The return is the same 290 km and the same €375. It matters more than people expect, because Sunday evening in 1850 is when everyone is leaving and local cars are scarce. Booking both legs at once means a driver with your name, waiting where you agreed, instead of a queue at the taxi rank with skis in the snow.
