Menton, the last French town before the Italian border, is famous for its mild microclimate, lush gardens, and sun-bleached Belle Époque architecture. It sits at the eastern end of the Riviera, beyond Monaco, so a comfortable private transfer is by far the easiest way to arrive from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport — especially with luggage or after a long flight.
Menton is around 40 kilometres east of the airport. The fastest route follows the A8 motorway, with the journey taking roughly 40–50 minutes. The alternative coastal corniche roads are slower but pass through Monaco and offer dramatic sea views if you are not in a hurry.
Because Menton is at the far eastern edge of the coast, public transport from the airport involves changes and a fair amount of time. A private transfer takes you door-to-door in under an hour, with a driver who meets you in arrivals and handles your bags. The price is fixed regardless of route or traffic.
Menton is well served by the coastal railway, but from the airport you must first reach a Nice mainline station and then ride the regional train (around 35 minutes from Nice-Ville). It is economical but less convenient with heavy luggage.
Regional buses connect the area but are slow for this distance. Airport taxis are available but cost noticeably more than a pre-booked fixed-price transfer for the longer run east.
Menton is sometimes called the “garden city” of the Riviera. The Serre de la Madone, the Jardin Val Rahmeh, and the Jardin Maria Serena showcase exotic and subtropical plants that thrive in the town’s exceptionally warm microclimate.
The pastel-coloured old town climbs steeply from the sea to the Baroque Basilica of Saint-Michel-Archange, one of the finest in the region. The view from the parvis over the rooftops and the bay is unforgettable.
